About The Club
We meet most Monday evenings throughout the year from September to May. During early summer we meet at outdoor locations in the area to get down to some serious picture taking!
If you would like to come along to see what we do, please feel free to do so without obligation. If you have any questions, don’t be afraid to ask - members will be happy to help you. And don’t be put off by some of the good images you will see - the photographers in this club have a range of abilities and even the good ones started with less experience than they have now!
Enjoy your visit to this site, perhaps we may see you some day?
The Club Evening
From September to May we meet on Monday evenings at 7.30pm. We have a programme of events which include practical evenings, competitions and talks from visiting photographers. Typically, we break at mid point for tea and conversation for about 20 minutes and then finish at around 9.45pm.
We include a number of practical evenings in our programme, where we set up a studio or table top at the club house, so members can have a go at the different aspects of photography which are being introduced.
Other practical evenings will allow us to see various photographic, printing or presentation techniques demonstrated.
On the programme you may have seen that we hold social events once or twice a year, at Christmas and sometimes in the summer. They are always informal affairs and are usually held at one of the many local pubs or restaurants in the area.
You will see from the programme that there are a number of competitions throughout the year. These are either between club members or between our club and other clubs in the area.
The monthly competition is between club members, but the competitive element is secondary to the comments and advice that the visiting judge will give to each piece of work. This competition is in two parts, one for prints and one for digital images.
We also have informal competitions for images taken during our summer evenings out.
Inter-club competitions give us the chance to meet members of other clubs in the South Wales area and vie for the trophies on offer.
Click here for more details of all the competitions.
In recent years there have typically been about 50 members in the Bridgend club, which is run by the elected committee. Click here for a list of committee members.
If you like what you see at the club and wish to join us, please speak to our Treasurer on a Monday evening and ask for a membership form. Adult membership for the 2017-18 season is £30.00 per year with a pro rata reduction for new members joining part way through the year. We also offer a junior rate of £5.00 per year for age 16 and under. If you wish to pay by cheque, please make cheques payable to ‘Bridgend and District Camera Club’. In addition, a £2.50 cash charge is made every week to include refreshments and a raffle draw. (This is only payable if you attend and does not apply for summer evenings out).
The club uses an Epson HD digital projector, Dell laptop and widescreen projector screen on club evenings. An i1 Display Pro screen calibrator is available for use by club members.
